Jimmy Stewart

Bio

Jimmy Stewart hails from Natchitoches, LA and his country music pedigree is long and illustrious. He comes from a family with a rich musical history. His Uncle Travis Stewart played and sang with Bill Monroe in 1971. Through his uncle and his dad, he met and played music with several legendary bluegrass musicians.

His musical influences range from his father and uncle, to Lester Flatt and Earl Scruggs, Ricky Skaggs, the Louvin Brothers, Elvis, and legendary dobro players, Josh Graves, Jerry Douglas, and Mike Auldridge. Although he considers himself mainly a dobro player, he is equally passionate about the fiddle and acoustic guitar.

At the age of 10, Jimmy learned to play guitar. At 15, he picked up the dobro, and at 16 he built his own fiddle. Upon arriving in Nashville at the age of 21, Jimmy worked at Opryland doing shows with some of country music’s up and coming stars. Later that year he moved on to work with famed bluegrass band Doyle Lawson and Quicksilver. Coming from the Bluegrass background that he did, this was really "hitting the big time" as far as he was concerned! When he left Doyle, he entered the country scene by playing with Warner Brothers artists Shawn Camp.

In 1996 he landed a gig touring with Brooks & Dunn which has lasted 12 years. During that time, he’s also worked with Alan Jackson, Linda Davis, Rascal Flatts, and Keith Urban. In April 2004, Jimmy signed as a writer with EMI. He has since signed with Warner Brothers Records and his first single will be coming to radio in early 2008.

"I've been writing lately with this young guy who's just amazing. A guy named Jimmy Stewart. He's from Louisiana. He's Brooks & Dunn's fiddle player, and has been for years, but he sings like a bird, man, and plays the [heck] out of the guitar and dobro, and just has these incredible stories to tell. I've been writing with him, and it's been really fun."
– The legendary Guy Clark
