Lori McKenna Wins Album of the Year at Boston Music Awards

NASHVILLE – Dec. 3, 2007 - Singer, songwriter Lori McKenna was honored by her hometown at the 20th Annual Boston Music Awards on Saturday night with the covenant Album Of The Year award for her album, “Unglamorous” on Warner Bros. Records. The Boston Music Awards, which honors the region’s top musicians from a variety of musical styles, were handed out at The Orpheum Theatre during a two and a half hour ceremony.
In addition to winning an award, McKenna also performed her album track, “Witness To Your Life” during the ceremony. McKenna was nominated for four Boston Music Awards this year: Act Of The Year, Album Of The Year (Major), National Female Vocalist Of The Year and Song Of The Year.
"I am still in shock," said McKenna after winning Album of the Year at the Boston Music Awards. "What an honor to be recognized by my fans and peers -- especially in my hometown -- I feel incredibly blessed."
McKenna continued, "I could not have done this without the support of Byron Gallimore and Tim McGraw who produced the record, and all the amazingly talented musicians who played on it. Faith Hill for taking me under her wing and believing in my songs, and I especially could not have done this without my husband, Gene and our kids. They inspire me everyday. Now do you guys believe I have a job,” McKenna asked with a smile.
The Boston Music Awards is the Country’s longest running regional awards show. Proceeds from the event support Music Drives Us and Berklee City Music Program. Both organizations provide opportunities to young people who are interested in music but do not have access to music programs.
McKenna’s Warner Bros. Records debut, Unglamorous – which was produced by Tim McGraw and award winning producer Byron Gallimore, is currently climbing up the charts. People Magazine gives the album four stars and says, “What really gets you on ‘Unglamorous’…is the strength of the songwriting.” USA Today also hails, “…a winning showcase for McKenna’s own achy-sweet, warmly knowing voice …”
McKenna was thrust into the limelight in 2006 when Faith Hill included three of McKenna’s songs on her No. one album Fireflies, including Hill’s hit, “Stealing Kisses.” Since the release, McKenna opened the mainstage on several dates for Faith Hill and Tim McGraw’s Soul 2 Soul 2007 Tour to rave reviews.
